"Thinking about the epistemic uncertainty and genocidal imaginings that the life of Louverture evoked in the course of the revolution in Saint-Domingue, per Dubroca, Rigaud, and Edwards, allows Girard to present him in much more cerebral rather than evocative terms of "racial hybridity" as well. Girard writes, 'the inscrutable , towering Louverture was a hard man to befriend; his peculiar position at the juncture of African, Creole, and European influences further isolated him, leaving him a white man in a black man's skin, feared but not loved, alone and lonely' (2011, 25). It is Buscaglia-Salgado, however, who connects interpretations of Louverture's life more directly to the language of "racial hybridity." Buscaglia-Salgado makes the tragedy of Louverture a potent symbol for a vocabulary of "racial mixing":

...It is precisely because the idea of "monstrous hybridity" was so widespread and nearly ubiquitous in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Atlantic discourse that it could so easily be repeated in the transatlantic print culture of the Haitian Revolution as an uncontested and even inconsequential fact rather than as a myth or stereotype. Furthermore, and with far more dire implications for women, Walker blamed female slaves and, by extension, all women of color for the lack of revolutionary prowess to be found among the slaves in the United States. Walker told the tale of 'servile' 'black' slave woman who gave in to her 'natural fine feelings' when she helped a white slave-driver escape certain death at the hands of escaped slaves (28, italics in original). Walker concludes:

But I declare the actions of this black woman are really insupportable. For my own part, I cannot think it was any thing but servile deceit, combined with the most gross ignorance: for we must remember that humanity, kindness and the fear of the Lord, does not consist in protecting devils. (29)

Peterson says of Walker's rendition of this story that 'in Walkers text it is the black woman who serves as the emblem of black disunity' (1995, 65). ... For the militant Walker, however, woman's position as a member of the 'gentler sex, naturally more moral, more loving, more caring than men' was not the virtue or ideal that it would appear to be throughout the majority of the early black press (Horton, 55); instead, these gendered distinctions were nothing more than a weakness that made 'black' females obstacles to freedom rather than allies. The characterization of this 'servile' 'black woman' whose innate weepy sentimentality is portrayed..., was part of a broad myth concerning women's (in)ability to participate in the necessarily depersonalized violence of the Revolution. Maria Stewart not only understood this, but dared to refute it." ; (Daut; p. 323-4.) -...Quite so, apparently - It feels not very difficult to think Walker of had shared the particularly eighteenth/nineteenth-centurist masculine 'value-system', and that for reflected on his (black) females blaming example given in text, such as described in above quote.

take a new rule in selection of feeds; that´s just maximum of half(only one of them review) for computerized topics and other half for other important matters we like take on focus...fine?

How come they´re not social netizens enough? And we learn that: "...offering technology is only half the battle - or less." Meanwhile, take a look at Flock 2.0 social browser based on new Gecko code and give it a try...

Meanwhile, as we´ve been focused on important socio-cultural matters, the technological world has pushed forward...

The human (created) waste: In india you can order an Eco Reco, a mobile door-to-door van to collect your useless e-waste, in US they´ve discovered the remarkable idea that it could be wise to gather all the nuclear waste in one remote place under deserts (no lakes, basewater close) instead of dumping it around different places close to towns, people, farming, etc.
- Not to meaning to take sides on which is a wiser innovation, we must note that there´s long history in trying to figure out how to safe-secure the radioactive waste(to be around ten thousands to millions of years), that: "...will persist even if our culture doesn´t." Yes, fine. And be sure to "...encase it in a way that will be stable on geologic time scales."

File under: "Copycats ripped off our visions" - The Hi-tech manager of HP was ahead of us and gave some hindsight of his visions ´til 2030; here at Mulskinner World we are not such a modest, in the close future we prepare to predict the forthcoming 50 years, and not just on computers and high-technics but also the environmental questions, energy-sources and pyrotechnics...And we also predict that USB 3.0 standard is well out and sold on comps during 2008 (Intel as well as AMD) even if there´s no actual usable devices on the market until the next spring.

More space available at MySpace, when your corporate news corp. will change UI for the good...And now you can even ask help from journalistic professionals if you´d like to publish privacy endangering material (like every other gossip magazine does - but in more intereting matters, why is blogging considered SO important that professionals are needed to give advice for choice of subjects/content?)

Some sosiological terminology

Sociological terms, pt 1.

As we are continuously working with our news-stream, we´ve noticed some need to clarify the key terminology in this vast area of information. Like earlier posting about the environmental terms, I´ve then chosen some appropriate and important ones from Dictionary of Sociology [Gordon Marshall, sec. ed. 1998, Oxford and New York]. Some readers may find this perhaps a bit out-dated and surely there´s similar dictionaries available on web, but I´ve given it some space here, merely to showing the usefullness of the book as reference dictionary when reading our newsposts. All terms are explained like in the book; naturally term explanations cut short by me (but not modified!) and sometimes I´ve used three dots [...] to save space by underlining the important matters. All links to other reference dictionaries etc. by me.

Disorganized capitalism A term used by political sociologists such as John Urry, Scott Lash, and Claus Offe to describe the fragmentation of socio-economic groups in the economy, *state, and *civil society of advanced capitalism (see, for example, S. Lash and J. Urry, The End of Organized Capitalism, 1987). [...] Finally, economic and political disorganization has implications for the nature of civil society, notably by encouraging the growth of a *postmodern culture, whick is linked to fragmented spesific interest groups other than social classes.

Economic determinism A philosophical and theoretical position most commonly associated with the Marxist assertion that social phenomena have their roots in the relations of production.

Eugenics From the Greek eu (well) and gens (to produce), eugenics refers to the manipulation of the processes of evolutionary selection, in order to improve a particular genetic stock or population. This may be achieved either through ´negative´ eugenics (for example the provision of screening facilities to pregnant mothers, in order to detect and prevent the inheritance of deleterious recessive genetic conditions), or through ´positive´ eugenics (in which certain groups may be selected for, or prevented from, reproducing). The latter is generally considered ethically unacceptable; the former is an area of ethical controversy. The Eugenic Society achieved notoriety in the early years of this century for advocating various forms of positive eugenics in order to improve the genetic quality of the national populations in Britain and the United States. Marginalization A process by which a group or individual is denied access to important positions and symbols of economic, religious, or political power within any society. A marginal group may actually constitute a numerical majority [...] Marginalization became a major topic of sociological research in the 1960s, largely in response to the realization that while certain developing countries demonstrated rapid economic growth, members of these societies were receiving increasingly unequal shares of the rewards of success.

Progress The idea of progress, conceived as the increasing sophistication of knowledge and the improving quality of life, has been driving force of Western civilization for at least three hundred years. During the twentieth century, the same idea has been adopted, with variations, by virtually every culture on earth. In the *Third World, development and *modernization are taken to be synonymous with progress.

Sustainable development Defined in Our Common Future, the Report of the 1987 World Commission on the Environment and Development (the ´Brundtlandt report´) as´development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs´. Rather than predicting greater environmental decay and hardship in a world of everdiminishing resources, the Report foresees ´the possibility of a new era of economic growth, based on policies that sustain and expand the natural environmental resource base´.

Technological determinism a theory of social *change, characteristically one *evolutionary, *progress or development, in which productive technique obeys a logic or trajectory of its own; and, in the process, acts as the principal determinant of institutions and social relationships. Since literal technological determinism is clearly untrue, most such theories also invoke a *cultural lag between the introduction of a technology, and its full social impact. It should not be confused or equated with *historical materialism. See also Cultural materialism.

Zeitgeist The characteristic spirit (Geist) of a historical era (Zeit). Eighteenthcentury philosophers like Voltaire were intrigued by the idea of ´spirit of the age´, but it was most fully developed by *Hegel. Philosophies and works of art , he argued, cannot transcend the spirit of the age in which they are produced. Their expression is always symbolic and imperfect, and the progress of the human spirit is marked by the greateror lesser degree to which it captures the absolute spirit, or truth itself, beyond the limitations of any particular era. The term Zeitgeist has come tu be used more loosely to describe the general cultural qualities of any period, such as ´the sixties´ or ´the romantic era´, and does not carry the strong *historicist connotations of Hegelian philosophy.

Also notice, that the *before terms in Sociology book indicates for a term that is explained elsewhere in the dictionary.

Hi again; After little relaxing break we are having a bunch of little important headlines, this time somewhat focused on African topics (ao. deforestation, population questions and not surprisingly political matters...)

Obama´s barack finally defeates the opponent and gasps for nomination - commentators agree and disagree as whether thats for some noticeable win: One sees the man as a new role model for the worlds blacks, other nails him as a puppet of corporate interests - both notice that its unlikely to change the foreign/inner politics.

No fuel left for the pilgrims: Worlds most pollutive sports gains a new race winner (metered by waste of gasoline per single auto-maccina), while the mass production of cars is told to be in ongoing changing process (a matter of U.S. citizens choices for more environmentalist and fuel-economic automobiles)...nevertheless, congratulations Robert!

"The average African has ecological footprint of 1.1 global hectares, but the growing population numbers is bringing continent close to ecological limits" - Now, how that compares to Phlipps refusing to start recycling its own generated e-waste, CO2 emissions raising the acid level of the seas or ever important renewing models of iPhones, PS3s. etc - pleez, tell me is it much more deforestating choice from me to buy African manufactured foods (I prefer to McMalnuts and Tasteless and Bacterous Company)?!

Lessons in love: Define concept honesty (for oneself)

How to define honesty? I mean being truly honest to oneself?

We have different approaches to the aspect; some religious, some humanistic ethical, some may be something else. Nevertheless, honesty is never very much in common in real life apart from that religo-theoretical framework. And if, honesty in itself is not very common in life (for ex. take a look at the prices of latest kids sell-out megaseller live-it-to-max playing figures), it should be even harder to truly find some honesty in oneself. In the MuleSkinner World ethics doesn´t differ from the common world, in the long (as in any world) run honesty is more lasting, dishonesty more predictable.

Dishonesty is propably one of the easiest sins (from the seven original ones) to fall for (meaning to lie to oneself). It´s actually so common that we all unnoticeably lie to ourselves constantly, that is: all the time. Being so popular, is it possible for us to act the other way? More significant in the limits of this text how to find standards for one´s honesty. Instead of trying to define truly rare honesty in ourselves, we could try defining it the opposite way. That means taking the lies under examination. Let´s take a quick look what English dictionary says from word lie. Heres citation from Websters, first two sentences:

" mean unworthy of trust or belief. Dishonest implies a willful perversion of truth in order to deceive, cheat, or defraud..." _{1) Websters Online Dictionary (it defines some synonyms too and mentions that swindle usually involves two dishonest people, but let´s stick to the point...)}

Nothing very obscure here; lying is lot more easily defined as being truhful. However, interesting point in definition: it usually takes two people to deceive, cheat, etc. We don´t usually steal, lie or deceit from ourselves. As an willful act (meaning fully aware of being dishonest to oneself) that could be quite unthinkable, trying to cover one´s own doings from him/herself knowingly. That´s propably possible but not very much common in actual social situations. However, from the earlier paragraphs we noticed that doing so unintentionally is without doubt even more common (sin) than saying aloud so called four-letter-words.

But our primary subject was to define honesty (for oneself). By defining the opposite, we noticed that being honest at least demands from a person to try to be not untruthful to others. Now, let´s ask for help from some most magnifient authoritatives in the ethical world; I mean the religion(s), more specifically we could try to define honesty (again: to oneself) by Christian and Buddhist standards.

The Christian view-point is quite straightforward: try not to do others what you would not prefer for yourself. Taking an example of David that lustfully sighes other mans wife and is said to have fallen adultery gives us some more clarification; by Christian standards falling to dishonesty starts by thoughful, not the physical act. However, we are granted with the mercy either that may actually had happened (or had not).

Buddhism being not so commonly teached in my school-system, it´s not as much familiar for us, so I´ll just give a short (hopefully) satisfying definition for the subject: (one of the) primary goals of buddhism is to lessen unnecessary suffering in the world (which is in itself unavoidable). Judging from that standard, trying to dishonest oneself (and others along with that) seems as unlogical as lying to others. Buddhism, according to my limited knownledge, being a religion of opposite logistics propably finds dishonesty as wrongful as Christianity does. If you wish to add some to others burden, you are propably taken for granted that it should weight in your own load too, in any other way that would be at least unjust by increasing the suffering (of others) by cheating yourself to be allowed not to. As an lightening example, I cannot figure out anything, but I suppose finding support for dishonesty as an act lessening suffering would be quite as unimaginable according to buddhist standards as well as in Christianity. Being much less individually oriented religion than Christianity, Buddhism most likely gives even less credit for the meaningles increase of suffering.

Things being so, acting dishonestly (to others) means implicitly (for the one acting so) trying to free oneself from responsibility of taking part in life itself. Now how about dishonesting oneself? Being truely dishonest (strange pair of words, is it?) in religious aspects means propably that person is (again knowingly) not caring to follow their rules or theoremas, although claims to follow them, but is instead using them gain himself (something). This means, a person is not caring to consider (the religious) principal belief-systems worth slightest consideration in his/her own actions. That is propably much common too, and as we noticed, easily fallen to, as even the mind in itself is never completely free from dishonesty. Naturally, common sense tells us that a person, causing willingly dishonesty to others (lifes), is mostly avoiding to take a responsibility of his own senses. Irresponsibility easily follows from the lack of ethical principles in ones own life.

All this said, is of course just theoretical. Dishonesty can be easily given some definitions with the aid of theoretical explanations of the opposite, much harder to isolate in social situations between people. Trying to cover up ones dishonesty (for oneself) by emotional explanations, temper, circumstances is just one typical response mechanisms for accused dishonesty. Yet, to find some suggestions for honesty in real life we can still ask help from another theoretical level, that being philosophy (and I´ve chosen founding father Aristotle, who is well-known for ethical discussions). In one of most renown antique discussion of ethics, Nikomachean ethics, Aristotle describes good and bad much according to characters. More specifically he typifies them by different manners people take in situations of social life (in this ethic-branch called virtue-ethics, each better act builds persons character better character). Aristotle finds rationale most useful and gives examples of truthfulness by describing the different levels of that; according to Aristotle goodnes in each circumstance is connected to acting in special way in certain situation. Most interesting concerning the principles of honesty, we find that:

"Basing on practical syllogism, Aristotle defines, the peculiar aspect (from modern perspective) that he doesn´t have any concept for freedom of choice or free will in any manner similar to us. Goodful human person acts goodfully unavoidably – he could not act any other way." _{2) Saarinen, Esa: Länsimaisen filosofian historia huipulta huipulle. Sokrateesta Marxiin, 1985, p. 85. [Cit. translation by writers]}

In Aristotles view-point, we find, concept of honesty is easily defined. Any act not based on rationale is untruhful, goodness is not defined by any individual standards, but sole principles of definitions of good character (my own simplified definition, but suffices to capture the main thing...). This could be frustrating too, staying honest (to oneself) not being an individual choice, but just the result of circumstances. Being the philosophist of reason, Aristotle finds truthfulness in justifiable deeds (according to certain situation). On the contrary to Christianity he seems to believe that true honesty is possible, even more, for reasonable person it is unavoidable. On the contrary to buddhism, he finds suffering not unavoidable but more or less a result of dishonest deeds.

We are not in favor of flagging for the rationale as we aren´t very much impressed with the results of the rationalists developments leading us to a blinded technological march through the world history. But in combination to all our discussion and concerns about honesty (whether philosophical or religious), We´d formulate the concept of honesty (for oneself) in three main principles. Ethically (in the very broadest sense of the word, not just in people to people situations) speaking, all of these are necessary demands of honesty for one´s own sake: Principally trying not to cause intentional harm to others, not intentionally increasing suffering (most often result from acts resulting from will to gain oneself some benefit from others) and trying to reason out if ones deeds in any given circumsances (not sunday:) can be reasoned justifiable according to "good manners":). Not the easiest of tasks, as we all understand...

It can be notified, of course, that this brief essay doesn´t give us any suggestions how to deal with a person found to be dishonest, deceitful, and/or in every manner untrustworthy. However, it shows that being honest to oneself is not in any way impossible, thought most demanding level of conciousness to keep (in mind) and no doubt demands more or less thought-work. As an ethical principle, from MuleSkinner perspective it is at least logically understandable point of view.

Hard times for an unhonest man ...The officials get surprisingly lot of help from new technology developed for phones: these days even the cheapest phones are likely to have camera, Nokia has started automatically geo-tagging the photos to give a hint of location pictured and from Sim as well as memcards a lot of a data erased can still be rescued afterwards...but is it ones own dogs barking when the trade minister finds the contents of his harddisk copied and stolen...
